Mr. Tom Zubko
President & CEO

Mr. Zubko is a proud member of the northern community and a
pioneer in the telecommunications industry in the Northwest
Territories. In 1990, Mr. Zubko founded New North Networks and
installed the first cable television system in Inuvik, N.W.T. By 1996
Inuvik had become the first community in the world to fully implement
high-speed digital “satellite to cable modem” technology, a
revolutionary accomplishment that earned Mr. Zubko extensive media
coverage in Canada and the U.S.A. In his efforts to grow the north’s
homegrown capabilities for digital communications, Mr. Zubko first
expanded into the realm of cellular service in 1999 through a
sub-licensing and roaming agreement with Rogers Wireless. In 2005,
after several years of successfully providing digital cellular service
in Inuvik, Mr. Zubko founded Ice Wireless and expanded the network to
include several other communities in the N.W.T. In his role as
President & CEO of Ice Wireless for the last 3 years, Mr. Zubko
continues to lead the company with his strong vision of creating a
“cellular phone company that has been built by northerners, for
northerners.”
